MCKENZIE, Tenn. - The final road game of the season proved tough for the Eagles (4-6, 3-4 MSC) who could not overcome the quick start by the undefeated No. 4 Bethel Wildcats in a 59-6 defeat Saturday at Wildcat Stadium in a Mid-South contest.
Bethel (10-0, 7-0 MSC) scored four touchdowns through the air in the first quarter, capitalizing on short field situations as their first five drives all started in Eagle territory. Wildcat quarterback Joaquin Collazo threw three scores with a long of 62 while catching another.Â
The defense settled in in the second quarter, holding the No. 4 team in the NAIA off the scoreboard, but the offense couldn't find the supporting points until
Caden Davis cashed in a 29 yard kick for his first of two field goals on the day to cap a seven play drive with 3:34 to play in the half.Â
The Wildcats opened the second half with a field goal and a 72 yard touchdown scamper to take commande back in the game. Davis knocked in a 36 yarder to cut the deficit to 32 with 5:48 to play in the third.Â
Bethel capped the game with three more fourth quarter touchdowns on short fields. The eight Wildcat touchdowns on the afternoon averaged just under 40 yards per drive.Â
The contest was the fifth time this season that the Eagles have faced a team in the top 10 of their division's poll and fourth against NAIA opponents.Â
Faulkner closes out its season with a 1:30 p.m. kickoff against Pikeville (5-4, 4-3 MSC) for senior day.
