MONTGOMERY, Ala. – Faulkner had everything going its way in the first half Thursday night before finding itself in a dogfight in the second. Brewton-Parker narrowed a 16-point halftime deficit to three with 31 seconds left before
Raygan Edmondson iced the game with a pair of free throws in a 92-88 Faulkner victory.
The Barons made their first six shots from the floor in the second half, narrowing the gap to 11 by the 15:36 mark. The Eagles twice got the advantage back to 14 before Brewton-Parker stormed back into the game. With 7:08 remaining, Lance Smith made two free throws before knocking down two more with 6:45 to go. He then made a shot with 5:52 left to cut it to 10. Two minutes later, Zailan Blue drained a three off a Smith assist to cut it to seven. Smith knocked down a shot with 3:43 left to narrow it to five.
The Eagles would work it back to seven on two occasions before Blue tightened the game again. He knocked down a three with 49 seconds left and another at the 31 second mark to cut it to a three-point game. Edmondson's free throws with 17 seconds left finished off the night.
The Eagles shot 49.2 percent from the floor in the game and 37.5 percent from beyond the arc. Faulkner gritted out the win largely at the free throw line, making 23 of 31 attempts at the stripe. They also parlayed 14 Baron turnovers into 24 points while taking the rebounding battle 41-30.
Blue topped all scorers with 33 while Smith added 25 for Brewton-Parker. The Eagles got a career high 32 points from
Trace Hill as well as 26 from
C.J. Hines, who reached the 1,000-point club in the game.
Isaiah Brooks added 13 while
Daniel Garmendia finished with 10.
Faulkner (9-0) is currently set to resume play Dec. 15 when it travels to face Life University. The Eagles are also awaiting a makeup date from the postponed road contest against Blue Mountain.
