Second day split concludes Classic

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. - A pair of three set matches resulted in a day split for the Lady Eagles as they wrapped up the Chick-Fil-A Classic.

FAULKNER 3, TRINITY CHRISTIAN 0 (25-21, 25-13, 25-11)

Aces ran wild in the first match Friday as the Lady Eagles delivered 17 aces, the most since August 18, 2017 when they served 22 against Tennessee Wesleyan highlighted by eight in the third. In addition to the service line dominance, Faulkner controlled the net, blocking four more Troll attacks in the straight sets affair.

After falling 4-0 in the first, the Lady Eagles scratched back to 10-9 before Charlee Jordan and Hannah Bryan sparked a run to turn the tide. The duo combined for a block before consecutive Bryan kills preceded an ace from Jordan to open an 8-1 run. Trinity Christian countered with a 5-1 run to cut the Faulkner lead to 18-16. Bryan and McInroy found back-to-back kills at 22-20 to create set point which was finished by a Trinity Christian error.

At 6-5 in the second, a Troll attack error put the ball in a dangerous place for Trinity Christian- the serve of Molly Presnell. The Montgomery native would not yield serve until eight points later with four aces added to her already stellar numbers in her first weekend in Faulkner blue. The Trolls put together a run to cut the lead to six but the Lady Eagles pulled away with an 8-2 closeout run to take a commanding lead in the match.

Mandi Hart's serve opened the match on a 5-0 run with a pair of aces. She'd collect two more later in the set to tie Presnell for the match-high of four. The Lady Eagles jumped to a 22-7 lead before the Trolls scored three straight or more as they closed the match out.

Jordan and Macy Kemper each had three aces while McInroy had a pair and Stagner one. Presnell led the floor with 12 digs while Kemper finished second with 10. Jordan led the team with seven kills and five blocks. Stagner's 13 assists paced the Faulkner attack.

NO. 18 COLLEGE OF SAINT MARY'S 3, FAULKNER 0 (25-18, 25-15, 25-7)

One of the nation's top teams proved their strength as the Lady Eagles couldn't crack the code of the 18th-ranked team in the country. Faulkner fell behind in the first set 14-6 and the deficit was just too much to overcome despite cutting the deficit to 19-17 as the Flames closed with a 6-1 run from there.

The Lady Eagles started the second set stronger, but the Flames pulled away from a 7-6 lead with seven straight points to provide enough cushion to take a 2-0 match lead. Saint Mary's sprinted to a 21-4 lead in the final set to seal the match.

Presnell turned in 12 kills and 11 digs for her second double-double of the weekend and third double-figure dig performance. Hart had 13 assists.

The Lady Eagles (2-2) return home for the Faulkner Invitational Friday night as they take on Southeastern and Reinhardt at 5 and 7.
