MONTGOMERY, Ala. - The Eagles are looking to improve upon their consecutive SSAC semifinals appearances as the road begins with SCAD-Savannah Wednesday afternoon at 4 p.m.
FAULKNER PREVIEW
Coming off a 5-11 season with five losses by a single goal–including the SSAC semifinals against eventual national runners-up Mobile–Faulkner is hungry for the next step and has a squad to achieve it. One of the headlining returners is second team All-SSAC forward
Antoine Marques. The Frenchman led the team with eight goals last season. Another is all-freshman
Matheus Rodrigues whose three assists was tied for second on the squad with Marques. Eight of the 12 players with eight or more starts are back for the 2022 campaign:
Nic Fischer,
Aleksa Dorovic,
Adrien Alexandre,
Heming Solberg Andersen, Marques and Rodrigues. 12 different players also scored goals last season and of that group, eight are also back. Newcomers to the fray that look to make an immediate impact include forward
Gabriel Dias, midfielder
Thomas Buijs and defenders
Gabriel Rokbrand and
German Diaz.Â
SCAD-SAVANNAH PREVIEW
The Bees enter the afternoon with an 0-1 record having dropped their first match of the season to the newest SSAC team, Life. It was a tough outing for the Sun Conference side losing 3-1 while being outshot 21-5. James Holmes was the goal scorer in one of just two shots on target. The three Running Eagle goals in the contest came tough as goalkeeper Connor Friel stopped a career-high 11 shots in the match and now carries a 72.9 save percentage. Ty Bennett and Phillip Holtgen are back after leading the team with four goals last season as the Bees went 4-6-6 before bowing out of the Sun Conference Tournament in the quarter finals as the five seed in penalties.Â
SERIES HISTORY
The all-time series is short but violent against the Eagles. The Bees won the only matchup between the sides 12-0 in Montgomery back in 2004 in the program's fifth match of its inaugural season.
