MONTGOMERY, Ala. -
Annabel Cuthbert's quick start combining with
Laia Gonzalez twice in the first five minutes gave Faulkner all they needed in a 3-1 win over Freed-Hardeman Saturday afternoon at Billy D. Hilyer Stadium.
Just 1:55 into the match, Cuthbert got to the end of a floated through ball from Gonzalez and went opposite post with a first touch shot. Just under three minutes later, Gonzalez skipped a pass through the center backs. Cuthbert again went opposite post with the finish and doubled the advantage for her third goal and Gonzalez's third assist of the season.
After conceding the first goal of the season in the 23rd minute, Confalonieri scored her second goal of the year off of
Ainsley Lockwood's corner on a half volley atop the box in the 30th to set the final scoreline.
Faulkner allowed just five shots defensively while creating 14 shots offensively.
The Lady Eagles are 2-0 for the first time since 2014 and will welcome the reigning national champions UT Southern Tuesday night at 7.
