PULASKI, Tenn. - Faulkner held its first clean sheet of the season behind
Nic Fischer's five saves and cashed in on
Matteo Manzoni's 14th minute goal and
Antoine Marques's 72nd minute tally to win at Grissom Pitch for the first time in program history Wednesday afternoon.
Manzoni pressed high and linked up with
Gabriel Dias on a one-two sequence and chipped the charging keeper for his first goal of his college career.
Withstanding 12 corners through the match defensively, Faulkner converted one of their own in the 72nd minute as
Antoine Marques clattered in the back post header from
Adrien Alexandre off the service from
Gabriel Rokbrand for his 11th goal in Faulkner blue and first of the season.
Of the seven shots it took, Faulkner put six on frame in the physical contest that saw the teams evenly split eight yellow cards.
The shutout is the first on the road since 2019 when Faulkner defeated Georgia Southwestern by the same scoreline. The last win for the Eagles against the former Martin Methodist was in 2017.
Faulkner holds a 2-0 record and will take on Montreat (0-2) Saturday at 4 p.m. central in a neutral site game in Atlanta.
