MOUNT VERNON, Ga. - Faulkner dug down deep to extend the win streak to seven Thursday night at Brewton-Parker with a 14-1 run over the last 3:10 to take a 59-48 win in SSAC action.
The win did not come easy for the Eagles who were trailing 47-45 with just over three minutes to play and had only scored three points in nearly 10 minutes and had not scored in the last six, but
C.J. Hines stepped up to the line and knocked down a pair of free throws to tie the game up. On the next possession,
Trace Hill cleaned up a missed three with one of his four offensive rebounds on the evening and tipped the ball in to take the lead. After Hill grabbed another one of his 14 rebounds on the night on the defensive end,
Daniel Garmendia knocked down a corner three while taking high contact and completed the four point play to push the lead to six and seal the game.
Hines had another nice night with his sixth 20-plus point performance in the last nine games with 23 points. He also had team highs of four assists and three steals while ending just one rebound shy of a double-double. Hill had his second straight double-double with 11 points and 14 boards.
The Eagles have now won their last 12 games against Brewton-Parker and 19 of the last 20 against the league foe.
Faulkner travels to Loyola Thursday night to take on the league-leading Wolf Pack who defeated the Eagles at home in overtime earlier this year en route to a two game lead in the conference. The Eagles are 2-0 in revenge games against teams they lost to earlier in the season while Loyola has lost just twice at home game since the pandemic including their Saturday loss to Mobile.
