WILLIAMSBURG, KY. – Faulkner struggled to move the ball Saturday, falling to University of the Cumberlands 37-7 in a Mid-South Conference road loss. The Eagles managed 101 yards through the air and lost three yards on the ground to turn out the fifth lowest total yardage mark in program history.
The Eagles' lone points of the day came in the second quarter when
Styles Hughes scored on a 5-yard run to tie the game at seven with 10:02 left until halftime. The Patriots answered with a Romeo McKnight touchdown reception of 29 yards and a Devin Jones scoring run from a yard out to move it to 21-7. Darius James then scored on a nine-yard run with 18 seconds left in the second quarter to put the Patriots up 27-7 at halftime.
James added a scoring run in the fourth quarter and Job Matossian hit a 23-yard field goal to set the final margin.
Cumberlands managed 402 yards of total offense on 71 plays while Faulkner had 49 plays for 98 yards.
Elisha McNeil topped the defense with 11 total tackles and a forced fumble.
Faulkner (1-5, 0-3 MSC) plays next Saturday at 11 a.m. when it hosts Georgetown.
