MONTGOMERY, Ala. - Faulkner fell for the first time all season as the No. 6 Crusaders cashed in two set pieces in the SSAC Men's Soccer Game of the Week Saturday afternoon at Billy D. Hilyer Stadium.
The Eagles had the first shot on goal as
Matheus Rodrigues's shot required a terrific save to keep it level in the fifth minute. However, that was the only shot on goal the hosts were able to get against a very tenacious Crusader defense in the contest.Â
William Carey scored first off a corner from Caoihmin McConnell that connected with the head of Elias Salminen at the back post for the eventual match winner in the 56th. In the 66th, William Carey took advantage of a free kick with a perfectly weighted through ball to a perfect cross to take a 2-0 lead and eventually seal the match.Â
It was the first time this season that Faulkner had been shut out and also the first time an opponent had scored multiple times in a match on them.Â
Faulkner looks to rebound Thursday afternoon against Thomas side on the road.Â
