MONTGOMERY, Ala. – Faulkner parlayed a 50-point first half into an 85-67 win over Midway Friday night as part of the Jimmy Faulkner Classic. The Lady Eagles scored 27 in the first quarter and 23 in the second to carry a 50-41 advantage into the locker room. A
Dee Guinn three with 4:45 left in the second moved the advantage to 45-29, the largest lead of the first half for Faulkner. Midway put together a 12-5 run to end the second, cutting the deficit to single digits by half.
Midway pulled to within six by the middle of the third quarter before Faulkner stretched the advantage back out with an 8-2 run. An 18-10 Lady Eagle run to open the fourth moved the lead to its highest point at 19.
Midway won the rebound battle 39-38 but committed 27 turnovers and got popped for 27 personal fouls. Those numbers allowed Faulkner to win points in the paint 42-26 and go 22 of 32 from the free throw line. As a team, Faulkner had 18 assists on 29 made baskets.
Ruthie Smith paced Faulkner with 19 points and seven rebounds.
Morgan Holland finished with 15 points and 12 rebounds.
Neely Johns added 12 points while
Kinlee Varnell had 10.
Nequoia Adams and Guinn had nine apiece.
Faulkner (3-2) hosts Bethel (Tenn.) at 2 p.m. Saturday to close out the women's portion of The Jimmy Faulkner Classic.
