Eagles use strong second half to put away Stillman

MONTGOMERY, Ala. – Faulkner used a 13-0 second half run to pull away from Stillman Tuesday night for a 74-56 victory. The Eagles took a five-point lead all the way out to 18 with the run that was sparked by a Jonathan Garcia three off a Derek Murphy assist with 14:53. Daniel Garmendia followed with a three to move the lead to 11 with a three that made it 48-37. The senior from Merida, Venezuela followed with a layup and a three to move the lead to 16 by the 11:45 mark. Trace Hill capped the run with a layup with 10:26 left to almost put the game away.

Stillman worked the score to within 11 with 3:54 left before Faulkner went on another 10-0 run to ice it.

Garcia knocked down a jumper and two threes while C.J. Hines made a shot to become just the eighth player in program history to reach the 1,400-point mark. Hines passed both Billy Sandifer (1,377) and Chris Palmore (1,399) to move into seventh all-time in Faulkner scoring. Next on the list is Billy Cabbil (1,407) points.

Hines finished with 25 points while Garcia added 18 and Murphy had 10. Isaiah Brooks had 14 rebounds in the effort. Faulkner shot 46.8 percent from the floor and 41.7 percent from three in the contest while limiting Stillman to 37.7 percent shooting from the field. The Eagles won the rebound battle 42-31.

Faulkner (23-4, 15-4 SSAC) closes the regular season Thursday night when it travels to Talladega.
