MOBILE, Ala. - Faulkner dropped both ends of a doubleheader Friday as it traveled to SSAC foe Mobile in the first conference series of the season.
MOBILE 5, FAULKNER 3
The No. 1 team in the country scored three runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to finish off a 5-3 comeback victory over Faulkner in the series opener.
Anna Purvis doubled home
Kaileigh Harrison to open the scoring in the first. Purvis then singled in
Chloe Davidson in the third to move the Faulkner lead to 2-0.
Gracie Pittman doubled in Purvis in the third for a 3-0 lead.
Mobile got off the deck in the home half of the third when Kristen Black singled in Madi Robertson. Black got another RBI in the fifth on a grounder that plated Robertson to cut it to 3-2. Carleigh Bowden ripped a two-run single in the sixth to put the Rams in the lead. Tempest Hebert drove home Robertson later in the inning with a single to cap the scoring.
Eavie Polk singled with one out in the bottom of the seventh to get the tying run aboard. She moved to second on a sacrifice bunt before the game ended on the next ball in play.
Katelynn Inness worked the complete game, allowing four earned runs and striking out three batters over six innings of work.
MOBILE 6, FAULKNER 1
Faulkner dropped the nighcap 6-1 in a game that saw Mobile pitcher Brinkley Goff throw a no-hitter. Davidson walked with one out in the first and scored on an error for the lone Eagle run of the game. Purvis and
Erika Mitchell each drew a walk in the fourth to account for the only Faulkner base runners after the first inning. Mobile scored a run in the first, four in the fifth and one in the sixth to secure the victory.
Goff (7-3) fanned seven over seven innings of work while walking three.
Ivey Hill (1-1) worked four and two-thirds for Faulkner while
Julianna Thames finished out the game.
Faulkner (6-7, 0-2 SSAC) returns to action Saturday at 1 p.m. when it travels to No. 12 William Carey.
