MONTGOMERY, Ala. - A first set comeback from the Blue Mountain Lady Toppers set the scene for a 3-0 (25-23, 25-20, 25-14) loss for Faulkner Thursday night at Tine Davis Gymnasium.
Faulkner jumped ahead of the receiving votes side with a dominant open, hitting as high as .778 on 12 kills as it led by as much as eight in early stages, highlighted by three straight kills from
Rhi Keck that forced an early timeout from Blue Mountain. However, the Lady Toppers battled back and eventually tied it at 19. Faulkner took a 23-21 lead but Gigi Sasso killed three of the final four points to give the first set to the back-to-back conference tournament champions.
Blue Mountain climbed to a 15-7 lead in set two but Faulkner rallied back to cut it to as little as three at 19-16. The Toppers took the next two points to push the set out of reach and took back control and a 2-0 lead. The Toppers hit .469 in the third set to cruise to the sweep and remain unbeaten in SSAC play.
Faulkner looks to bounce back Friday night in the SSAC Game of the Week against UT Southern at 6 p.m.
