First quarter storm drops Lady Eagles against No. 3 Tigers

MONTGOMERY, Ala. - A tough first quarter was too much to overcome for the Lady Eagles against the No. 3 Campbellsville Tigers in a 95-63 defeat Saturday afternoon at Tine Davis Gymnasium in the final nonconference game of the year.

Campbellsville went on a 19-0 run after trading buckets to start the game over 6:44 to pull out of reach. A first half ending Dee Guinn three coupled with a second half opening three by Neely Johns cut the deficit to 13 but the Tigers quickly ballooned it to a 22 point spread with a trio of threes, with two of Maddy Boyle's nine threes on the day.

The Lady Eagles struggled to find space for open shots against the relentless Tiger defense shooting just 35.3 percent from the floor while the No. 3 squad in the nation shot 59.7 percent from the floor and almost 70 percent from deep.

Morgan Holland led the team with 15 points while Ruthie Smith and Guinn added 12 and 11, respectively. Nequoia Adams tied her career high for assists with eight, exactly two years from her eight dish game against Blue Mountain on Jan. 6, 2022.

The Lady Eagles look to bounce back against Thomas Tuesday night at 5:30 as the return to SSAC action.
