St. Louis, Mo. - On day two of the Missouri Baptist Tournament, the Lady Eagles took on the Missouri Baptist Spartans and the Lindsey Wilson Blue Raiders. The Spartans and Blue Raiders came into the matches receiving votes in the NAIA Women's Volleyball Coaches Top 25 Rating. In game one, the Spartans won in three sets. In the second match of the day for the Lady Eagles, they faced Lindsey Wilson.
Match 1
Missouri Baptist 3, Faulkner 0 (25-11, 25-18, 25-12)
The Lady Eagles' first match, against the Spartans of Missouri Baptist, was hard-fought. Faulkner looked to turn around from a long day yesterday with an early win against a great team. Missouri Baptist took the match in three sets. Faulkner battled the whole match, but the Spartans jumped out to commanding leads early and held on until the end of each set.Â
Hannah Bryan led the team in kills with six.
Ashton McCullar had six digs to lead the Lady Eagles.
Mandi Hart had another double-digit assist match with 14.Â
Match 2
Lindsey Wilson 3, Faulkner 1 (22-25, 25-18, 25-13, 25-16)
In the first set, the Lady Eagles trailed 4-1 early. Faulkner ended a 4-0 run from the Blue Raiders with a kill from
Hannah Bryan. The point gave the Lady Eagles the momentum they needed throughout the rest of the set as the two teams traded back-and-forth points.Â
Midway through the set, the Lady Eagles rallied their way to take the lead over Lindsey Wilson after a 7-0 run. Faulkner took their first lead of the set since the first serve. The score sat at 12-9 for the Lady Eagles.Â
The two teams continued to exchange points for the next several serves until late in the match; the Blue Raiders took the lead late in the set with a 6-0 run. Lindsey Wilson led 22-21. On the next four serves, the Lady Eagles completed the comeback with four straight points to win the first set 25-22.Â
The Lady Eagles won a hard-fought first set, but in the next three sets, the Blue Raiders won in commanding fashion. Faulkner battled throughout the match, but was unable to come away with the win. Lindsey Wilson took the match 3-1 after being down one set.
Rhiannon Keck led the Lady Eagles in kills with nine.
Madison Martin had seven of her own.
Mandi Hart had another double-double with 17 assists and 13 digs.
Ellie Cyr also had 13 assists and eight digs.Â
The Lady Eagles return to action when they hit the road again on Wednesday Oct, 16, to take on Southern University at New Orleans. The first serve is set to start at 3 p.m.
