MONTGOMERY, Ala. - Faulkner led twice, but fell late to the Mobile Rams Thursday night in a 4-2 loss to Mobile at Billy D. Hilyer Stadium in SSAC play.
Kailee Cox opened the scoring in the 24th minute, capitalizing on a beautiful pass sequence as
Alessia Confalonieri hit down the line to
Ainsley Lockwood who slid and passed to
Sofia de la Torre who perfectly placed a through ball to the former cross country runner who buried the first touch shot with a left-footed finish. It was Cox's second goal of her career, de la Torre's first assist this year and Lockwood's third straight match with a goal contribution with four goals and three assists in the three-match homestand.Â
The lead was short-lived as Andi Hughes fired a top net shot after a good throw in set her up for the attack in the 26th minute to tie the match for Mobile.Â
Cassie Jackson hit some magic in the 34th when she looped a ball from almost the corner flag under pressure high and it dipped on frame and was too tough to handle for the keeper who could not keep it out of the net for her eighth goal of the year. The 2-1 advantage held through halftime.Â
Ashlyn Broussard picked up the tying and go-ahead assist with Raegan Latiolais's tally in the 52nd minute before a relative stalemate for 23 minutes ended when Hughes scored the eventual match-winner. With Faulkner chasing the late point-stealing goal, Latiolais scored the dagger in the 84th.Â
Faulkner faces a tough road test in William Carey, a team that has not lost in SSAC play since 2017, Saturday at 1:30 p.m.
