Box Score Mount Vernon, Ga. - The Lady Eagles traveled to Brewton-Parker College on Saturday afternoon for their second match of a weekend road trip. The Barons took set one of the match. The Lady Eagles then took the next two sets. The match went to extras, with Faulkner one set away from the win. The Barons fought hard to come back and win set four to push it to the fifth set. Brewton-Parker completed the comeback victory after winning the final set and the match 3-2.
Brewton-Parker 3, Faulkner 2 (25-22, 23-25, 22-25, 15-13)
The first set was a battle of back-and-forths. The game started off with Brewton-Parker scoring the first point. The Lady Eagles responded with a kill from Rhiannon Keck. From there, one team would start a run, and the other would answer with a run of their own. The set consisted of a few single points, but the majority of the points came in sequences all the way to the end.
The Lady Eagles led for the majority of the set until late in the match, when the barons tied it up for only the fourth time of the set. They tied it up at 20 all, but the Lady Eagles went back up by one after a kill from Riley Deem.
The Barons took the lead with the next two serves to bring the score to 22-21. Faulkner tied it back with a kill from Hannah Bryan. The Barons then went on to take the set with three points in a row to finish set one at 25-22.
The second set saw the same flow for the first half of the set. Each team traded runs with few single points scored in between until late in the set when Faulkner took a 3-0 run and then four straight after a single point from the Barons. The score stood at 19-15 in favor of the Lady Eagles.
The two teams traded points on the next two serves before Brewton-Parker went on a 6-0 run to lead Faulkner 22-20. The Lady Eagles then came back with four straight to take set point at 24-22.
On the next serve, the Barons scored to draw within one, but Rhiannon Keck sealed the set two win with a kill to end the score at 25-23.
The third set was all Brewton-Parker as they led the Lady Eagles for most of the set. Faulkner turned it around after they hit a 5-0 run to lead 18-15.
From there, the two teams traded points on the next six serves to bring the score to 21-18 for Faulkner. The Barons then drew within one after back-to-back points.
On the next three serves, Faulkner reached the set point with a kill from Charlee Jordan, an attack error from the Barons and an ace from Mandi Hart. The Barons scored two more to trail by 2, but on the next serve, the Lady Eagles took the set with a kill from Jordan. The Lady Eagles won back-to-back sets with the 25-22 set two win.
In the fourth set, the Lady Eagles started strong with five straight points. Brewton-Parker scored their first point after the Faulkner run, and from there, the theme that was seen throughout the match continued as each team traded several runs and singular points here and there.
The Lady Eagles led 21-16 late in the set. The Barons commanded a late comeback to send the match to the final set after a slew of late points. The Lady Eagles battled by scoring after the Barons took each run, but the Barons continued to push forward to win set four 25-23.
In the fifth set, the teams battled, keeping it close all the way. Faulkner trailed for the majority of the set until they tied it up at 10, all with four straight points. The Barons answered with a point, but Faulkner took the lead with a kill, each from Madison Martin and Charlee Jordan. The Barons then hit a 4-0 run to take the set 15-12 and the match 3-2.
The Lady Eagles had three players in double digits for kills. Rhiannon Keck had 14. Hannah Bryan had 12 and Allyse Rudolph had 11. They also had two with double-digit figures in digs. Kolbi Bates led the way with 14. Hannah Bryan completed a double-double with 12. Mandi Hart led the team in assists with 25. Ellie Cyr also reached double digits with 14 of her own.
The Lady Eagles return to action when they host Pensacola Christian College on Tuesday, October 29. The first serve is set for 5:00 p.m.
