Montgomery, Ala. - The Lady Eagles took on William Carey on Day 2 of the SSAC Volleyball Championship. The Lady Eagles went 1-1 on Day 1 of pool play after falling to Blue Mountain 3-0 and taking Life to the wire to take the second match 3-2. The Lady Eagles battled throughout the match between the Crusaders, but William Carey outnumbered the Lady Eagles in kills, leading to the 3-0 win for the Crusaders.
William Carey 3, Faulkner 0 (25-11, 25-13, 25-18)
The Lady Eagles lost the first two sets 2-0 to the Crusaders. Faulkner scored off some big-time kills from their attackers, but the power of William Carey was too much early and often. The Crusaders took set one 25-11 and set two 25-13.
In the third set, The Lady Eagles kept it much closer. Faulkner started the set with a kill from
Victoria Wheeler and a block from Wheeler and
Charlee Jordan. The Crusaders then took a 4-0 run to take the lead. Faulkner answered with another kill from Wheeler. William Carey pushed their lead back to 6-3 with two more points. Faulkner then scored on two of the next three serves.
William Carey grew their lead after two more points to bring the score to 9-5. Each team then traded points on the next five serves to draw the Lady Eagles within three.
William Carey extended their lead to six on the next three serves with three straight points. Faulkner scored another point after a kill from
Charlee Jordan but the Crusaders went back up seven with a kill of their own.
Faulkner climbed back within five after a kill from
Riley Deem and a block from Deem and
Hannah Bryan. The Crusaders pushed their lead back seven with two more points.
Riley Deem put up another kill but William Carey answered with their own.
The Lady Eagles fell to 22-14 but drew within six after two more points. One kill from
Victoria Wheeler and an error from the Crusaders brought the set to 22-16. William Carey scored another point to jump back out to a seven-point lead. The Lady Eagles then pulled back within five after two errors from the Crusaders but William Carey quickly ended the set on the next two serves. The Crusaders completed the 3-0 sweep after winning the third set 25-18.
Hannah Bryan led the Lady Eagles in kills with six.
Mandi Hart and
Ellie Cyr both had 11 assists. Four different players had six digs each for the Lady Eagles. Those players were
Mandi Hart Hannah Bryan Ashton McCullar and
Kolbi Bates.
The Lady Eagles finished 11-19 on the year and 6-7 in the conference. They battled all year, picking up big-time wins along the way to get them to the SSAC Volleyball Championship.
