Montgomery, Ala. - The Eagles hosted Middle Georgia State for a non-conference slate on Tuesday afternoon. Faulkner survived the late barrage of threes from Middle Georgia to pick up the win in a final score of 77-72.
In the first half, the two teams kept the score very close. The Eagles led the majority of the half until the Knights took their first lead at the 6:52 mark with a layup from Jamal Taylor. The Eagles eventually took the lead back at the 3:39 mark with a three from Jonathan Garcia.
The Knights took the lead back on the next play with a three of their own, but the Eagles tied it up at 28, all after a layup from Maliek Sadler. The two teams went back and forth on the next couple of trips. Faulkner took the final lead to take it to the half with a layup from Jonathan Garcia.
The second half started with the Knights tying it up after a layup from Bryce Turner. Middle Georgia then took the lead with a jumper to bring the score to 34-32. The Eagles then went on to take the lead back after a 10-0 run to lead the Knights 44-34.
The Eagles continued to grow their lead, with the Knights answering to keep it close through the second half. Midway through the second half, the Knight pulled within three at the 7:53 mark.
From there, the two teams battled until Middle Georgia pulled within one after an onslaught of baskets from the Knights. For the next several minutes, the Eagles held on to their lead despite Middle Georgia keeping close till they had to start fouling. The Eagles evaded the comeback from the Knights to win 77-72.
The leaders for the Eagles came in Jonathan Garcia with 23 points. T.J. Williams had 14 points and nine rebounds. Jeffrey Selden had him a night as he tallied 11 points, eight rebounds five assists and tied the program record with six steals. Maliek Sadler rounded the Eagles out with 10 points and three steals.
Faulkner (7-0, 2-0 SSAC) returns to action on Saturday when they host Oakwood for the rematch. Tipoff is set for 8:00 p.m.
