Montgomery, Ala.- The Lady Eagles hosted the Barons of Brewton-Parker for the regular season rematch on Friday afternoon. Earlier in the season, Faulkner traveled to Brewton-Parker, where they lost 3-2 to the Barons. In tonight's matchup, it seemed the same fate could be happening as the Lady Eagles found themselves down 2-0, but Faulkner picked up the match 3-2 after winning three straight sets. The Lady Eagles battled through each set to tie the season series at one all.
Faulkner 3, Brewton-Parker 2 (19-25, 23-25, 25-20, 25-13, 15-10)
Through the first two sets, the Lady Eagles fought to stay in each set. Both teams saw several runs of scoring but Brewton took two sets early and the Lady Eagles had to win the next one to send it to extras.
In the third set, the Lady Eagles started with the first point after a block from Allyse Rudolph and Victoria Wheeler. Brewton then scored two in a row to take the lead, but Faulkner answered with three in a row to take a two-point lead. The Barons then tied it at four, all on the next two serves.
Each team traded points on the next two serves, with Faulkner scoring first. Faulkner then went on a 5-0 run to lead 10-5. On the next three serves, Brewton scored two of the three before Faulkner extended their lead to seven with three straight points off a kill from Rudolph and Riley Deem and an attack error from the Barons.
On the next nine serves, Brewton scored 7 of the points, with Faulkner only scoring two to bring the Barons back within two. The Lady Eagles took a four-point lead with two more points, but Brewton drew within three on the next serve. The Lady Eagles jumped out to a five-point lead with a kill from Rhiannon Keck and Macy Kemper to lead 20-15.
Brewton crawled back within three after scoring three of the next four serves, but Faulkner pushed their lead back to five with two more in a row. Each team scored two on the next four serves, with Faulkner scoring on the final serve to take set three 25-20 and send the match to extras.
In the fourth set, it was all Faulkner as they sent the match to five sets. The fourth set win came behind several runs, which included two separate 7-0 runs to take a commanding win of the set 25-13.
In the fifth set, Faulkner scored the first two points, with Brewton following up two of their own. Faulkner then put down four straight to take a 6-2 lead. Brewton responded with three in a row to bring it within one.
Each team scored twice on the next four serves to bring the set score to 8-7 in favor of the Lady Eagles. Faulkner took a three-point lead with two more points but Brewton drew within one with two of their own.
Each team scored one on the next two serves to keep the set within one point. On the next four serves, Faulkner took the set with four straight points to win 15-10 and win the match 3-2 to complete the comeback.
The Lady Eagles had four players reach double-digit figures in kills. Hannah Bryan led the way with 14. Allyse Rudolph had 11. Victoria Wheeler and Riley Deem had 10 each. Faulkner also had two players reach double digits in assists. Mandi Hart led with 25, while Ellie Cyr had 22. Hannah Bryan and Mandi Hart completed a double-double with adding double-digit digs. Bryan had 16 and Hart had 15. Kolbi Bates also had 15 digs, with Ashton McCullar behind her with 10.
The Lady Eagles return to action on Saturday afternoon for their final regular season home game against Middle Georgia. The first serve is set for 2:00 p.m., with Senior Day recognition to follow the match.
