Tuscaloosa, Ala. - The Lady Eagles traveled to former SSAC foe Stillman College for a mid-season rematch. The Tigers defeated Faulkner on Nov. 2 in the Jimmy Faulkner Classic 63-57. On Wednesday night, the Lady Eagles picked up the win on the road over the Tigers 67-49.
The Tigers kept the game close through most of the first half until the Lady Eagles jumped to a 12-point lead after a pair of free throws from
Dee Guinn that came after a three-pointer from
Josie Edwards to lead the Tigers 28-16.
Stillman pulled within 10 on the next trip down the floor with a jumper from Lauren Powell. The Lady Eagles then expanded their lead after two trips to the charity stripe from
Ruthie Smith and
Nequoia Adams. The Tigers scored another jumper to pull within 12 but Adams pushed the lead to 15 with a jumper and free throw. Stillman closed the half out with a free throw to trail Faulkner 35-21.
In the second half, the two teams continued to battle but the Lady Eagles slowly climbed to a 23-point lead by the end of the third quarter.
In the fourth quarter, the Lady Eagles held on to their lead as the Tigers continued to fight till the final second. Faulkner clinched the win over the Tigers after a tremendous second half. Faulkner outshot the Tigers 46.2 percent to 20 percent from the floor in the third quarter to push their lead. From there, the Lady Eagles never looked back.
Ruthie Smith led the Lady Eagles with 24 points and 10 rebounds, giving her a double-double.
Grace Anne Rose and
Nequoia Adams joined Smith in the double-figure scoring column, with 12 for Rose and 10 for Adams.
Grace Anne Rose also grabbed a double-double by picking up 10 boards as well.
Faulkner (5-7, 0-3 SSAC) returns to action for one last game before the New Year. The Lady Eagles travel to Columbus State University for their last exhibition of the season. Game time is set for noon on Friday, Dec. 20.
