WEST POINT, Ga. – Faulkner ended the regular season with a whisper Saturday, falling 83-63 on the road against SSAC foe Point. The Lady Eagles trailed by six at the end of the first quarter and never pulled the game even again on the way to the loss.
"Point turned on the faucet and we couldn't shut it off. They shared and shot the ball extremely well today from the floor and the free throw line" Faulkner head coach
Reed Sutton said.
The Skyhawks recorded 22 assists on 29 made baskets while making nearly 54 percent of their shots from the floor and 88 percent from the charity stripe. They also dominated the glass 42-32, highlighted by Mirial Cannon's 10 boards. Her double-double combined with Shakira Wilson's 29 points proved plenty of firepower for the home birds.
"Wilson was out of this world in the first half," Sutton said of the junior guard who had 24 points by halftime. "We matched them for a good while and shot more attempts than them, but we dried up in the fourth quarter. They played great and deserved the win."
The Lady Eagles finished with four players in double figures, topped by
Neely Johns at 15 points.
Kinlee Varnell and
Morgan Holland added 12 apiece while
Evaiah Burrows had 10.
Faulkner (16-12, 12-6 SSAC) finishes the regular season in fourth place in the conference. The Southern State Athletic Conference will announce the Lady Eagles' first round tournament matchup following the conclusion of league play Saturday, Feb. 24.
