MONTGOMERY, Ala. - The Lady Eagles saw their SSAC Women's Basketball Championship run come to a close in the semifinals Friday night in a 81-66 loss to No. 1 seed Loyola at the Multiplex at Cramton Bowl.
The national No. 17 Loyola took a five point advantage into the interval, but came out on a 12-0 run to start the second half to pull away with plenty of cushion. The Wolf Pack climbed the lead to 60-40 with 8:46 to go in the game but Faulkner sparked a 12-2 run in just over two minutes to get back into the game until the momentum left following a pair of technical foul free throws and a bucket on the ensuing possession to deflate any hopes of the comeback.Â
Faulkner shot just 34.9 percent from the floor while the Wolf Pack shot 53.6.Â
Morgan Holland led the team with 22 points and four assists.
Ruthie Smith led with eight rebounds and added 13 points.
Dee Guinn had 15.Â
The Lady Eagles are hopeful for a national tournament bid with a season's record of 17-13 overall and a top 10 strength of schedule nationally. The selection is set for March 7 at 7 p.m.
