Faulkner eases by ABAC for SSAC victory

Box Score MONTGOMERY, Ala. – Faulkner notched its third consecutive SSAC victory Saturday as it dropped Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College 79-44 The victory, which pulled the Lady Eagles to an even record on the season, came on the strength of an active defense that forced 26 turnovers by the Fillies while generating 21 Lady Eagle points.

After a bit of a slow start, Faulkner found itself tied 10-10 with just over two minutes remaining in the first quarter. From there, the Lady Eagles flipped the proverbial switch. They ended the first quarter on a 9-0 run and stretched it to 11-0 on the first possession of the second quarter.

After the Fillies strung together a four-point response, Faulkner answered with an 11-0 run to move the game to 32-14. They later followed that spurt with a 12-1 run that all but put the game away before halftime.

After holding a 44-20 advantage after two quarters of play, the Lady Eagles continued to control the game in the third period before running the lead to as many as 34 in the final frame.

Eleven different players scored for Faulkner, which gave its bench lots of opportunity in the contest. No Faulkner player exceeded 24 minutes on the floor with Nequoia Adams topping that category.

Adams also topped Faulkner in scoring with 18 points to go along with three rebounds, four assists and three steals. Dee Guinn added 15 points while Ruthie Smith had 13 points, seven rebounds, three steals and two blocks.
Faulkner won the rebounding battles 52-42, including 19 offensive boards that led to 27 second-chance points. The Lady Eagles also won paint scoring 30-24.

Faulkner (9-9, 3-5 SSAC) returns to action Thursday when it hosts Point University at 5:30 p.m.
