THOMASVILLE, Ga. - Faulkner picked up a big road win to keep pace and keep control of its own destiny for the SSAC Men's Soccer Championship with a 2-1 result at Thomas Saturday afternoon as three Eagles made some individual history.
The Eagles scored twice within three minutes when
Leo Freire found
Konsti Witte in the 27th minute. It was Konsti's second goal of the weekend and his 10th of the season. Freire tied Alexandre Padoveze's 15 career assist mark and is the only Eagle to ever have 15 goals and 15 assists in a career.
Just a few moments later, Caio de Luna Gomes found
Angel Ugwumba who put him and Witte into rarified air with the program as the first duo to score double-figure goals in a season in the 30th minute.
Thomas got one back in the 59th when Aaron Sindhar dribbled down the right wing and found Ethan Moore who squared into an open net.
Andre Ferreira made a big save off a free kick from just outside the box in the 63rd before saving the follow-up a few seconds later to keep the lead.
Faulkner held on to spoil Thomas's senior day and pick up another important three points in the packed SSAC standings. The Eagles sit at 14 points and presently sit third in the SSAC and will welcome SSAC powerhouse and No. 7 team in the country William Carey to town Thursday night. Faulkner would clinch the highest conference finish in program history with a win while William Carey seeks to keep the driver's seat for the SSAC Regular Season Title. Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m.
