Faulkner finishes off season sweep of Barons

MONTGOMERY, Ala. - Faulkner (8-14, 3-9 SSAC) snapped a four-match skid, earning its first win of October with a sweep (25-13, 25-18, 25-18) of Brewton-Parker Christian (2-16, 0-11 SSAC) at Tine Davis Gymnasium on Saturday. The win also clinches the first regular season sweep for the Lady Eagles in 2025, doing so in three sets apiece after the teams traded five-setters last season. The result is Faulkner's 60th win over the Barons in 65 meetings.

The Lady Eagles claimed every major stat, including an 8-2 advantage in blocks. However, the clincher came in forcing the Barons into 23 errors, including 10 and nine in the bookending frames, to just 27 kills. Faulkner outhit BPCU .272 to .045 in tallying 33 kills to just 11 miscues.

Faulkner blew away the Barons in the first frame, hitting .400 to .000 despite just two more kills than the latter due to eight less errors. BPCU then scored one more kill than the hosts in the second but had two more errors to lose the hitting battle .240 to .333. The Lady Eagles then led by a sizable margin in the final period as well with an advantage of .143 to -.063. They led 11-2 in the third on the back of a 7-0 run, but the Barons scored the next five and 10 of the next 13 rallies to prompt the first and only Faulkner timeout of the afternoon. Clinging to a narrow 17-15 lead later, Martin and Rudolph tallied kills off dimes from Hart and Strength, respectively. In response to each BPCU point from then on, the Lady Eagles responded with a kill and a Baron error, the last two kills by Kynsi Hazzard.

For the second straight match, Allyse Rudolph led her team on offense and defense, putting up eight kills and 10 digs with two blocks and an ace to boot. Kaleigh Moss scored seven kills with two blocks. Charlee Jordan and Riley Deem had six kills apiece, but their effect on the game was much more than that, each of them doing so on just eight swings. Jordan hit .750 to go with an ace and a block, while Deem was .625 with a pair of blocks.

Madison Martin and Hazzard each scored three kills on nine swings, and Martin added a pair of blocks. However, it was Hazzard who stole the show on the block in her first start as a Lady Eagle, as the Southern Union transfer tallied five total blocks, while also scoring the match-clinching kill to finish off the sweep. Ellie Cyr and Mandi Hart combined for 29 assists and seven digs, and Hart added an ace. Kolbi Bates and Jaylyn Strength combined for 14 scoops. Addison Smith served up four aces.

The Lady Eagles are back in Tine Davis on Tuesday, Oct. 21, at 6 pm for their last home nonconference test, their third matchup with Stillman this season.
