MOBILE, Ala. - Faulkner (9-15, 3-10 SSAC) came back to narrow the first set and led in the third set, but could not overcome No. 25 Mobile (20-2, 11-2 SSAC) at H. Austill Pharr Gymnasium on Thursday night as the Rams won in a sweep (25-17, 25-19, 25-23).
Mobile jumped out to a 9-0 lead to start the match before the Lady Eagles narrowed the margin to as few as four points, though the Rams kept the visitors at arm's length as they dominated in hitting percentage .267 to .073 and tallied twice as many kills as Faulkner. The second set was much closer as Mobile scored six more kills but committed one more error to win the hitting battle .353 to .270 and strung together one more run to go up 2-0. The offenses were dead even in the third set with each team hitting .209. Faulkner jumped out to two leads of three and four points each, the last one at 13-9 before an 8-1 Mobile run stole the Lady Eagles' last bit of momentum. With match point at 24-21, Faulkner staved off the finisher for two more rallies due to a service error and a Kaleigh Moss kill, before a Sophie Dorris kill finished it off for the Rams.
For the fourth straight match, Allyse Rudolph led both teams in kills, scoring 12 to go with seven digs. Riley Deem was next on the team with six kills. Madison Martin and Charlee Jordan each scored five kills, and Moss had four. Jaylyn Strength had 13 digs. Ellie Cyr and Mandi Hart dished out 15 and 13 assists, respectively.
The Lady Eagles return to the region for their next contest, their final nonconference test of the regular season, as they play in a return trip to Pensacola Christian on October 28 at 5 pm.
