MONTGOMERY, Ala. - The Lady Eagles battled No. 2 William Carey to a 4-1 loss Thursday night, but outscored the Crusaders in the second half as William Carey clinched the SSAC title.
The buzzsaw that is the Crusaders improved to 64-0-1 in conference play over their last 65 contests with four goals in the first half to take a commanding lead into the break, but Faulkner was unphased. The Lady Eagles stayed composed and buckled back down, holding William Carey, who has now scored 102 goals this season, off the board in the second half.
Oluwatomisin Eludipo scored her 10th goal of the season, taking advantage of a chaotic bounce and failed clearance, timing up a great shot to the bottom corner. The goal marked the first time since 2022 Faulkner has had multiple 10-goal scorers with Eludipo and
Cassie Jackson combining for 21 goals this season. Tomi has scored in five of the last seven matches.
The Lady Eagles allowed just one shot on goal in the second half.
Faulkner secured the eight seed and will rematch with William Carey for the first round of the SSAC Women's Soccer Championship in Hattiesburg sometime next week at a date to be determined later.
