MONTGOMERY, Ala. – Faulkner shared and scored the ball with tremendous efficiency Saturday night as it downed Ave Maria 88-43 in the penultimate game of the Jimmy Faulkner Classic. The Lady Eagles turned in the fifth-highest assist total in a single game in program history, helping on 25 of 34 made baskets in the effort. The tally is the most since Dec. 30, 2019 when Faulkner had 24 assists in a game against Point.
Against the Gyrenes Saturday night, the Lady Eagles got the ball early and often. Faulkner poured in 23 points in the first quarter to go up 23-15, ending the frame on a 6-0 run. The stretch continued until the 3:07 mark of the second quarter when Ashley Chilson made the first bucket of the period for Ave. The make ended a 16-0 stretch for the Lady Eagles. Faulkner followed the Chilson interruption with another 16-0 run that lasted until the 6:44 mark of the third quarter and put the Lady Eagles up 49-18.
Faulkner shot 51.5 percent from the floor in the game, including 45.5 percent from beyond the arc. The Lady Eagles saw 10 different players score and eight notch assists.
Sydney Steward topped the helper category with six assists while
Keyarra Scottland and
Addison Cantrell notched five apiece.
Ruthie Smith topped all scorers with 16 points to go along with eight rebounds.
Avery Rogers and
Ella Jane Connell had 12 points each. Scottland and
Grace Anne Rose finished with 10 points apiece.
Faulkner (2-0) travels to Babson Park, Fla. Friday to take on Webber International before heading to Lakeland to take on Southeastern Saturday.
