SHREVEPORT, La. - Faulkner led for 86 minutes, but the season came to a heartbreaking conclusion Saturday at The Swamp as LSU Shreveport scored with less than 2 minutes to play before finding the golden goal five minutes into overtime in the NAIA Men's Soccer Championship Second Round.
Konsti Witte got on the board early with a second minute penalty after
Angel Ugwumba was pulled down in the box. Just three minutes later,
Matheus Magnusson found Witte in the left corner of the box who whipped a ball into the top right corner for a 2-0 lead just five minutes into the match. However, LSUS found their footing and pressed for a goal in the first half but could not find it.
LSUS came out of the locker room strong with a 47th minute tally to make it 2-1 where the game got increasingly chippy. Faulkner received six yellow cards across the contest including a red card in the 82nd minute.
LSUS broke through the Faulkner defense for the equalizer in the 89th minute when David Vejsmose scored to put all momentum into the hosts hands.
Five minutes into overtime, the Pilots lead talisman Jack Thomas finished the comeback and ended the Eagles' season.
Faulkner finishes the season 11-5-3 after reaching the national tournament for the first time in program history.
