Toppers finish off season sweep of Lady Eagles

MONTGOMERY, Ala. - Faulkner (9-18, 3-12 SSAC) fell behind early to drop the opening set to Blue Mountain Christian (21-6, 11-4 SSAC) before rallying for leads but falling on late runs in the second and third sets as BMCU finished off a season sweep in six sets of the Lady Eagles this season, winning 3-0 (25-20, 25-22, 25-22) at Tine Davis Gymnasium on Friday night.

An 8-1 opening run doomed Faulkner in the first period. BMCU spotted Faulkner a 3-1 lead to start the second before taking a three-point lead. The Lady Eagles then tied it up and took the lead which stood at the latest at 21-19, but the Volley Toppers closed on a 6-1 run to go up 2-0. In the third, Faulkner used a 9-1 run to neutralize a three-point BMCU lead and take a 14-9 lead. The Toppers responded in kind with a 10-3 run, and after the Lady Eagles tied it at 21, four of the last five rallies went to the former as BMCU left Tine Davis with the sweep.

The Toppers outhit Faulkner .264 to .175 with an advantage in most categories on the stat sheet. They were led by Rachel Stegall racking up 19 kills and hitting .457. Salice Speed added 10. Libero Kora Wilson dug 25 Faulkner attacks.

Allyse Rudolph strung together 15 digs and 10 kills. Jaylyn Strength led the backline with 20 digs. Charlee Jordan and Kaleigh Moss each scored eight kills; Riley Deem had seven and Madison Martin five. Martin and Kynsi Hazzard each put up three blocks, and Moss added two.
