Lady Eagles shake slow start to soar past Mobile

MONTGOMERY, Ala. – After a clunky start, Faulkner pulled away in the second half Saturday to move to 3-0 in SSAC play as it downed Mobile 79-43. The Lady Eagles rode a hot-shooting middle two quarters to a massive lead that they never lost as they put up 49 over two frames. During the second and third quarters, Faulkner hit nine threes to pull away.

Overall, the Lady Eagles made 14 shots from deep and hit at a 43.8 percent clip despite going just 1 of 7 from beyond the arc in the first quarter. The performance put Faulkner at 37.6 percent from three-point range on the season, the highest mark through 10 games in program history.

The shooting helped the Lady Eagles overcome 21 turnovers. Faulkner also assisted on 17 of 24 made baskets with Ella Jane Connell notching a career high eight dimes to lead the category. Grace Anne Rose and Ruthie Smith each scored 18 points to top the offense while Avery Rogers and Morgan Holland DeWitt had 15 apiece.

Faulkner shot 46.2 percent from the floor and won the rebound battle 41-19 as DeWitt had nine boards and Smith finished with eight. That margin also helped the Lady Eagles to a 14-2 advantage in the second-chance points category. The home team also forced 21 Mobile turnovers to win outpace 21-12 in the points-off-turnovers comparison.
