Faulkner races to home win over BPC

MONTGOMERY, Ala. – Faulkner prevailed in a fast-paced affair Saturday afternoon in Tine Davis Gymnasium as the Eagles downed Brewton-Parker 99-82. In a game that saw a combined 137 shots from the floor and 49 more from the free throw line, Faulkner found a way to counter BPC's press and get on the attack. Despite shooting 15.4 percent from beyond the arc on 26 attempts, the Eagles flirted with 100 points. That feat came thanks, in large part, to the Eagles taking the points-in-the-paint category 66-22.

Faulkner also held the rebounding advantage 44-35 while forcing 16 Baron turnovers and winning fast-break points 13-8. The home team finished the game shooting 52 percent from the floor while the Barons shot 41.9 percent. The Eagles shot 81 percent from the free throw line in the game, moving their percentage to 86.4 percent from the charity stripe on 66 attempts over the last three home games. The game also marked the eighth time the Eagles have had double-digit steals this season, the most such games since the 2020-21 team.

The Eagles held court through a helter-skelter first half that included 25 fouls, 33 free throws and 15 turnovers. Largely undaunted by the full-court press defense, Faulkner shot 46.2 percent from the floor in the frame and carried a 52-40 lead into the locker room.

The Eagles started the second half with a 27-16 run and got the lead to as many as 23 before the Barons put together a 10-0 streak of their own to get it to within 13. The teams traded punches from there with BPC getting no closer than 13 before the final buzzer sounded.

Gabriel Rivera topped Faulkner with 27 points while Maliek Sadler added 21 to go along with 14 rebounds. Jonathan Garcia contributed 20 points and seven assists. Jeffrey Selden notched 18 points along with 10 rebounds and four steals.

The win moved the Eagles to 20-4 at home against Brewton-Parker all-time, including 12-0 during Scott Sanderson's tenure.

Faulkner (16-6, 7-4 SSAC) returns to action Thursday when it hosts Life University at 7:30 p.m.
