MONTGOMERY, Ala. - Head Coach
Scott Sanderson made a special announcement, hiring Grant Sanderson in the role of Men's Basketball Assistant Coach.
Scott is excited to be able to get to help train his son professionally and help him further develop as a coach as well. "I'm excited to have his knowledge of the game and be able to help him grow as a coach. He just has a good feel for the game. He's great at building relationships with the players and developing their skill sets. His ability to break down film on opponents as well as our players will be extremely helpful right away to our program."
For Grant, it's a unique opportunity to not only coach at his alma mater, but to coach with his dad. "I'm excited to be working with my dad because I believe he has a great basketball mind and there is so much to learn from him. The culture and the winning program he has built at Faulkner is something special. Not many coaches win this much for this long so I'm excited to learn what it takes to maintain success!"Â
Grant comes back to Faulkner following a graduate assistant stint with Kennesaw State, lead by Head Coach Antoine Pettway, where he helped the Owls to a Conference USA semifinals appearance last season and 34-30 record in his two years in the position.
"Being at Kennesaw State was obviously an amazing opportunity that I believe was life changing," Grant said. "Being able to work with Pettway is something that is very special. He's been at the highest level and won so learning what it takes to win at the highest level is something special. I was able to learn what scouting and recruiting looks like at a high level program and I'm excited to bring that knowledge to Faulkner!"
Grant Sanderson served as a student assistant in the 2022-23 season for Faulkner where the Eagles went 27-6 and hosted the NAIA National Tournament first and second rounds and a share of the SSAC regular season title.
