Faulkner sweeps Barons for first SSAC victory

MOUNT VERNON, Ga. - On a short turnaround following a long trip across the Peach State following a tough five-set loss in Marietta to Life, Faulkner (4-5, 1-1 SSAC) turned it around in a big way against Brewton-Parker Christian (1-5, 0-2 SSAC) to the tune of a sweep (25-23, 25-14, 25-20) in Gillis Gymnasium on Saturday afternoon.

The Lady Eagles took every statistical category over the Barons to overshadow an otherwise low offensive output. Faulkner only had one frame with positive hitting, though it was a .314 second frame sandwiched by a .000 opening set and a -.156 final period. It was more than enough against the Barons, however, as the Eagle defense held them to a -.103 mark in the first frame despite the offense scoring two fewer kills. The Eagles went on to win the hitting battle in the second and third sets as well, holding BPCU to marks of .091 and -.182 respectively.

Both teams only scored double-digit kills in one set, the middle set in which both had a positive percentage, and no player had double-digit kills. Defense indeed ruled the day in this one, as BPCU committed double-digit miscues twice, the latter of which was contrasted by two fewer errors than Faulkner but just four kills to the Lady Eagles' seven.

Allyse Rudolph and Kaleigh Moss tied for the team lead with six kills with a pair of assisted blocks, and Rudolph added 10 digs. Mandi Hart dished out 11 assists and eight digs. Jaylyn Strength led the backline again with 14 scoops and Charlee Jordan also pitched in 10. Ellie Cyr tallied nine assists, seven scoops and four kills. Madison Martin, Riley Deem and Jordan each scored three kills, and Martin and Deem led the block with three and four blocks respectively. Kendall Rice had a pair of blocks as well. Anna Prempramot led with two aces, with Deem, Cyr and Jordan each collecting one of their own.

The Lady Eagles return home for their next three contests next week, starting with Pensacola Christian on Tuesday, Sep. 9, at 6 pm for a second nonconference battle of Eagles this season.
