Faulkner back in win column with blowout of Lady Barons

MONTGOMERY, Ala. - The Lady Eagles (11-6, 5-3 SSAC) took control early to get back in the win column on Thursday evening at Tine Davis Gymnasium with a 70-46 blowout win over Brewton-Parker Christian (4-13, 3-3 SSAC).

Ella Jane Connell hit a pair of triples in the first quarter to break open a more back-and-forth contest and Addison Cantrell ended the period off a steal by Sydney Steward to put her team up 17-8. After trading buckets to open the second quarter, Faulkner strung together a 13-0 run that spanned from 8:10 to 0:31 to take the quarter 17-5. Avery Rogers and Keyarra Scottland hit triples, Morgan Holland DeWitt cashed in on an old-fashioned three-pointer and Steward, Savannah Crimm and Grace Anne Rose scored layups before Ja'Ka'Yah Draughn broke the drought for the Lady Barons with a trey with four seconds left until the half.

The Lady Eagles kept firing in the third quarter. After Brett Douglas opened it with a layup, BPCU responded with a trey. From there, Faulkner broke off a 16-4 run with the first 15 coming from makes beyond the arc, two apiece from Smith and Scottland and one by DeWitt. The hosts won the period 19-11, outshooting BPCU 37.5% to 19.1% for the latter's highest shooting mark of the game at that time. Faulkner made five of nine long-range shots in the period and allowed just one make from that distance on 14 shots for the visitors. All in all, the Lady Eagles easily claimed the shooting battle 35.1% to 19.7% and three-point shooting 31% to 12.8%.

Scottland paced the floor with 13 points and four assists with two steals and a blocked shot. Smith scored her second straight double-double with 14 rebounds and 12 points with three blocks and three steals. DeWitt had 10 points and seven boards. Connell put up nine points and six boards and Audrey Blaine seven points and seven boards off the bench. Douglas blocked two shots, and DeWitt, Rose and Steward each registered a steal.

The Lady Eagles are back home on Saturday for a noon tipoff against Point.
