MONTGOMERY, Ala. – One day after knocking off the No. 1 team in the nation, Faulkner never entertained the idea of a letdown game. The Lady Eagles throttled LSU-Alexandria 92-44 in their final Jimmy Faulkner Classic game to move to 2-0 on the season.
Faulkner trailed by four with 3:53 remaining in the first quarter before Layla Davis parlayed a
Makinley Traylor pass into a three-pointer.
Addison Cantrell then dished off to Davis who did again to put her team up 16-14. A Cantrell and-one bucket and a layup apiece from
GraceAnne Rose and
Sydney Steward made it a 13-0 run and thrust the Lady Eagles into a 23-14 lead.
After some back-and-forth for the early part of the second quarter, Davis assisted a Traylor triple to ignite another dominant Faulkner run. The Lady Eagles scored the final 17 points of the second quarter to carry a 48-22 lead into the locker room.
Eight points from
Ruthie Smith powered a 13-5 run early in the third quarter before a 13-0 run later in the frame put the game well out of reach at 74-31. Faulkner got bigger minutes from its bench in the fourth quarter but scarcely let up as it opened the period with a 14-1 stretch that ballooned the advantage to 92-34.
The Lady Eagles shot 52.9 percent from the floor in the game and knocked down 48.6 percent of their three-point attempts. Faulkner won the rebounding battle 37-29 and held the lead for more than 35 minutes in the game. The Lady Eagle bench put up 41 points in the contest while the team forced 20 turnovers and scored 28 points off those miscues. Faulkner also dominated the paint at a 34-8 clip.
Smith led the Lady Eagles with 19 points and four rebounds in only 21 minutes of action. Traylor finished with 12 points while Rose and Davis had 11 apiece. Cantrell added 10 to go along with nine from
