BLUE MOUNTAIN, Miss. - Faulkner picked up an important SSAC victory with three first half goals to defeat Blue Mountain Thursday afternoon on the road at The Summit.
The Lady Eagles dominated the match with a 24-8 shots advantage and allowed just two shots on goal as
Hannah Maddox and
Taylor Waters combined for a clean sheet.
Faulkner got on the board first with a sixth minute goal as
Yury Santaclara followed up a shot from
Brooke Parker to score what proved to be the match winner. It was Santaclara's first goal of the season and has now contributed to a goal in two straight matches.
In the 25th, Parker picked out
DeAireal Williams who scored her fourth goal in four matches to make it 2-0. It marked the second straight match in which Parker picked up an assist.
Cassie Jackson made it 3-0 in the 36th minute to seal the deal and score her 29th career goal and her eighth of the year. Jackson, like Williams, has now scored four times in the last four matches.
Faulkner's defense, led by the centerback pairing of
Emily Hardman and
Tora Andersson, locked the Toppers down to hold the lead through the second half.
The Lady Eagles picked up three crucial points for the playoff chase, moving to a tie for the eighth and final spot pointswise with BMCU, Wesleyan and Mobile. Faulkner travels to UT Southern for the next contest that is scheduled for Saturday afternoon, but likely will alter with the incoming hurricane.
