Mike Mendoza has joined head coach Patrick McCarthy's staff after spending the past two seasons at Ashford University in Iowa. Mendoz'a primary responsibilities will be working with the Faulkner hitters and heading up the Eagles' recruiting efforts.
A native of San Gabriel, Calif., Mendoza was the Player of the Year in the Midwest Collegiate Conference for Iowa Wesleyan his senior season in 2012. He was also named a second team NAIA All-American that season. He hit .335, collecting 61 hits in 52 games, including 21 doubles, a triple and a team-leading eight home runs. He was a two-time All-MCC first team selection.
A graduate of Iowa Wesleyan, Mendoza spent a couple of seasons playing professional baseball before getting into coaching.
"I am very excited about the opportunity to join the Faulkner University family and to work with coach McCarthy," he said. "I hope to help continue the tradition of glorifying God both on and off the field. It feels good to be with a program that competes each year on the national stage."
According to McCarthy, his new assistant "has the reputation of being a strong recruiter, and that has to be the foundation of any program. We're happy he is a part of the family and we look forward to seeing him bring in good players."
