McCarthy was named the ABCA NAIA Coach of the Year in 2013, the SSAC Coach of the Year in 2012, 2013, 2018, 2019, 2022 and 2024, a nine-time ABCA Regional Coach of the Year and was a finalist for the Skip Bertman Coach of the Year presented by the College Baseball Hall of Fame in 2013.

There he compiled a 158-108 record which included a 58-47 tally in the TranSouth Conference and postseason record of 4-10.
