Blaine Miller

Blaine Miller begins his second season on the Faulkner football staff as defensive coordinator and recruiting coordinator.

Miller was Rob Gray’s first new addition to his inaugural defensive staff, after the two had previously worked together at the University of Alabama-Birmingham and the former had opportunities to learn from some of the greatest defensive minds in the sport. Miller also coached linebackers in 2021, including two Second Team All Mid-South Conference Appalachian Division seniors in Antonio Gurley and Phillip Russell, who combined for 101 tackles.

Miller served as a sports enhancement intern, assistant strength coach and offensive graduate assistant in almost three full years at UAB before taking a position at the University of Alabama in early 2015. He was a player personnel assistant and on-campus recruiting assistant there for eight months after UAB had temporarily shut its program down.

After returning to Birmingham for six months to coach the Blazers’ running backs when the school announced the program would return, he reunited with former Alabama defensive coordinator and future national-championship winning head coach Kirby Smart. He became a quality control analyst for the defense at the University of Georgia in January 2016 after Smart took the head job there. Miller worked for the Bulldogs for three years, and was part of an SEC Championship-winning team there in his second season.

Miller followed Georgia defensive coordinator Mel Tucker to the University of Colorado in 2019 after the latter became the Buffaloes’ head coach. He worked as a defensive graduate assistant there that season, but went to the community college level after Tucker took the head job at Michigan State University. He was the defensive line coach at East Central Community College in Mississippi from March 2020 to May 2021, after which he got the call from Gray.

He is a 2012 graduate of Grove City College, where he was a three-time all-conference running back. Miller has been married to the former Holly Pippin since June 2021.
