Box Score MONTGOMERY, Ala. - Faulkner saved its most productive offensive outing of the season for Senior Day, with the Eagles scaring the century mark in a 95-83 victory over Brewton-Parker here Saturday afternoon at Tine Davis Gymnasium in the Southern States Athletic Conference finale for both teams.
Head coach Scott Sanderson's team enters next week's league tournament with a 17-13 overall record and a 11-17 mark in the SSAC, having won 10 of its last 12 conference games. Still, Sanderson feels much improvement is needed if the Eagles are to make a run in the 10-team event at the Cramton Bowl Multiplex. Faulkner, the fifth seed, will play fourth-seeded Martin Methodist Thursday night at 9:45.
"To be honest, we're not near where we need to be on the defensive end," he said. "For us to have success next week we're going to have tighten it up. We're playing better on offense, but we're going to win with energy and effort defensively."
Three of the four seniors who were honored prior to tipoff had big games, with fourth - Cameron Porter - out with an injury. Nick Drake had 16 points, and Alex Anderson and Monta Sanford added 11 apiece in the last home game of their collegiate careers.Sanford added a game-high 13 rebounds. Junior point guard Di'mar Hill continued his torrid play, scoring 28 points and grabbing nine rebounds, while sophomore forward Logan Jozwiak turned in a 15-point performance.
"I'm happy our seniors went out with a win today in front of their families and friends," Sanderson said. "All of them are good basketball players but also are good people. They've been a joy to coach."
Faulkner used a 13-4 run early to grab control and scored the last nine points of the half to build a 57-44 advantage at the break. Hill had 22 of his points in the opening 20 minutes. Another dominating stretch came in the first five minutes of the second half, with the Eagles outscoring the Barons 16-4 to push the margin to 25. The 12-point deficit at the final buzzer was the closest Brewton-Parker got the rest of the way.
