Saved penalty not enough for Lady Eagles on senior day

Box Score

Two early goals from the Middle Georgia (8-7-1, 4-3 SSAC) was too much to overcome for the Lady Eagles (1-9-2, 0-5-1 SSAC) despite a saved penalty effort from Rakeema Najiy Saturday afternoon as they suffered a 5-0 defeat on senior day at Billy D. Hilyer Stadium.

Miagh Downey scored two skillful goals in the sixth and 11th minute and had a chance for a 20 minute hat trick on a penalty kick, but Najiy stepped up and stopped the shot. Najiy made eight saves in the loss.

The Lady Eagles are still alive in the SSAC playoff hunt, but will need help as Bethel currently occupies the sixth spot with Faulkner a game and a half behind that mark. Faulkner will face the Lady Wildcats in McKenzie, Tenn. Saturday afternoon, but will first face fifth-ranked Martin Methodist in Pulaski, Tenn. Thursday at 4 p.m.
