Loyola blows by Faulkner as Eagles suffer first loss

Box Score

Loyola had little trouble scoring Friday night as it shot 55.7 percent from the floor to knock off Faulkner 99-87.

"We pretty much didn't do anything defensively. When you give up 99 points, you didn't do anything defensively," Faulkner Head Coach Scott Sanderson said. "We got what we deserved. Nobody played well at all. We had a hard time stopping them and they scored at will on us."

The Eagles got 38 points from C.J. Jones (JR/Port Richey, Fla.) in the effort but proved largely unable to limit the Wolf Pack, which had five players score in 14 or more points in the game.

Jones made eight threes to buoy a Faulkner shooting performance that including 46.6 percent from the floor and 42.4 percent from deep. But the Eagles turned the ball over 26 times, allowing Loyola to pull away late.

"We've been turning it over 10 times a game and we turned it over 26 times. Our starting guards turned it over 19 times," Sanderson said. "It's a wonder we were even in the game late. We scored 87 points, which is what we've been scoring all year long. The problem is we didn't stop them."

Milan Skundric (JR/Negotin, Serbia) added 16 points for the Eagles in the loss. Faulkner (9-1, 2-1 SSAC) hits the court again Sunday afternoon when it plays at William Carey.

"I hate getting beat, but it'll be interesting to see how we respond," Sanderson said. "How do you respond? Do we take ownership? Good teams respond. Average teams don't respond. We're playing a pretty good William Carey team, but it'll be interesting to see how we respond tomorrow and Sunday."
