Faulkner drops third straight with loss to Truett McConnell

Box Score

Faulkner led nearly all of the game before succumbing to Truett McConnell in 72-70 in the waning seconds Saturday afternoon.

""I told them at halftime if we kept playing the way we were playing, we were going to leave ourselves in a situation where a last second shot could potentially beat you and that's exactly what we did," Faulkner Head Coach Scott Sanderson said.

Christian Davis attacked from the right wing and dropped a dime to Calvin White who hit the bunny layup with five seconds to play. Sean Edwards (SR/Madison, Ala.) heaved a deep three from just inside halfcourt but drew back iron to seal Faulkner's fate. The loss proved the third straight for Sanderson's team.

The Eagles turned the ball over 12 times in the first half and 18 times in the game. Faulkner also struggled to slow the hot shooting Bears, who hit 49.1 percent from the floor in the game.

"In the first half we lost 18 possessions. We turned the ball over 12 times and we gave up six offensive rebounds," Sanderson said. "That's 18 possessions that we lost. We weren't playing particularly well but we were winning because of our defense. In the second half they shot 65 percent from the floor. You don't beat anybody doing that."

Adnan Halilovic (SR/Mali Zvornik, Serbia) had 18 points and 13 rebounds, career highs in both categories, while netting his first double-double in the loss. Rene Scott (JR/Mobile, Ala.) finished with 16 points while Edwards and C.J. Jones (JR/Port Richey, Fla.) had 10 apiece.

Davis paced Truett McConnell with 23 points while Darius Thrower finished with 15.

Faulkner (9-3, 2-2 SSAC) returns to league play Jan. 3, 2019 when it travels to Dalton State.
