Point Spoils Women's Soccer Home Opener

Box Score

MONTGOMERY, Ala. — Faulkner (0-1) was unable to break down the Point (Ga.) (1-0) defense in its 2-0 defeat in the first home contest of the academic year here at Billy D. Hilyer Stadium tonight. It was also the debut game for head coach Pritchard Ndaira.

The Skyhawks struck first in the 27th minute as Kelly Carlisle sprung free off a perfect through ball from Jessica Torres. Carlisle, having missed an identical chance minutes before, made no mistake about it and slid the ball past Rakeema Najiy (0-1) and into the bottom left corner.

Late in the second half as Faulkner was pushing for an equalizer, Sabria Marquez floats the ball from 40 yards out just over Najiy's outstretched hand and into the back of the net to finalize the scoring and secure the victory.

The Lady Eagles had their fair share of opportunities, but Point's defense was able to snuff out the attacks and close off good looks before they developed into quality shots. Faulkner put two attempts on net, but neither were too big of a problem for visiting keeper Rachel Ash (1-0) who recorded her first clean sheet of the season.

Najiy collected one save in the loss.

The Lady Eagles next competitive match will be Saturday at 3:30 p.m. when they host Webber International. It will be the first meeting between the two programs.
