Edwards drops 28 to lead Faulkner past Blue Mountain

Box Score

Faulkner used one of its best offensive performances of the season to get back in the win column with an 87-75 win over Blue Mountain Saturday afternoon.

After trailing 19-6 early, Scott Sanderson's team bounced back as Sean Edwards (SR/Madison, Ala.) dropped shot after shot to spark the offense.

"I've been wanting to put Sean back in the lineup ever since he got hurt. He had been hurt. He didn't play really well. But I've been wanting to get him back in the lineup. I was just kind of waiting for an opportunity to put him back in the lineup. He's the one that kind of sparked us," Sanderson said. "I thought Milan played well and he and Rene both made some shots, but I thought Sean was the key."

The Eagles shot an impressive 49.12 percent from the floor including 44 percent from beyond the arc in the victory. Faulkner also controlled the rebounding battle, out-boarding the Toppers 44-27 in the game.

"We talked a lot about effort. Sometimes when you get beat several games it takes the energy out of you," Sanderson said. "I told them tonight we had to have great energy, be extremely active, chase down loose balls. We did that."

Edwards paced Faulkner with a career high 28 points, a scoring outburst that saw him also post personal best performances in three-pointers made (5) and free throws made (11). Milan Skundric (JR/Negotin, Serbia) continued his strong week, following up a career high scoring performances two nights earlier by posting 20 points and 11 rebounds Saturday. Rene Scott (JR/Mobile, Ala.) added 14 points while Adnan Halilovic (SR/Mali Zvornik, Serbia) notched 10.

Lukas Durasas led Blue Mountain with 21 points. Jonah Simpson had 19 while Brandon Williams scored 13. De'Juonta Ross recorded a double-double with 12 points and 10 rebounds.

Faulkner (13-8, 6-7 SSAC) returns to action Thursday when it hosts Dalton State before welcoming Martin Methodist to Tine Davis next Saturday.

"We've got some guys nicked up, banged up. We've got to be smart about practice and try to get our legs back under us," Sanderson said. "I'm more concerned with what we're doing and how we're playing. I'm concerned with our energy, our effort, our ability to share the basketball. I'm more concerned about us than I am our opponents."
