Two late Dalton State goals sink Faulkner in SSAC opener

Box Score

The Lady Eagles held a 2-1 lead into the 80th minute, but conceded twice in the final 10 minutes to fall to the Lady Roadrunners 3-2 Saturday afternoon at Billy D. Hilyer Stadium. Adrianna Arjoon converted a penalty conceded by Faulkner in the 81st minute to level the scoring before Sarah Chamale linked up with Andrea Lopez at the top of the box for the game winner just five minutes later.

This delayed game took a while to find its rhythm with teams entering the interval scoreless. Kickoff was initally slated to begin at 1:30 p.m. but lightning in the area caused the match to start at 4:26 p.m., just four minutes under the window in which the contest could initiate.

Three goals in a 76 second span sparked the contest starting in the 52nd minute. Faith Pelletier-King (SO/Laval, Quebec, Canada) intercepted a quickly taken goal kick from Dalton State goalkeeper Mattie Dollar at the top of the box and ripped a half volley which caromed off the far post and spun backwards into the net to score the opening goal. 45 seconds later, Cynthia Coronel collected a pinballing set piece and slid it past Megan White (FR/San Angelo, Texas) to equalize. Faulkner wasted no time climbing back into the lead with a prestine build up goal started by Nanoko Omae. The Japanese midfielder found Pelletier-King in the middle of the field who took one touch and delivered a pass to Carolin Gaeher (FR/Muenster, Germany) who beat the charging keeper with a rolling effort just 31 seconds after the Roadrunners tied the match.

Megan White ended with seven saves in the loss.

Faulkner will welcome Florida College to Montgomery for the first time since 2007 Thursday night at 5:30 p.m.
