Lady Eagles drop opening match on late stunner

It took 86 minutes for either side to break the stalemate at River Bowl Stadium in West Point, Ga. Saturday night, but a final moments header from Skyhawk forward Sonia Guadarrama gave the win to the hosts in the first official contest for both teams.

Point edged out Faulkner 12-5 on shots and 3-2 in attempts on frame despite splitting fairly even on the rest of the statistical categories. The decisive moment was triggered by Jazmine Marquez who had missed a shot just seconds before.

Megan White (FR/St. Angelo, Texas), Dominique Rivera (FR/Brownsville, Texas), Haley Bartell (SO/Pace, Fla.), Carolin Gaeher (FR/Muenster, Germany), Kaitlyn Ambrose (FR/Birmingham, Ala.), Kaitlin Obrero (FR/Winter Haven, Fla.), Klara Ebert (FR/Mannheim City, Germany), Gianna Mendez (FR/Mexico City, Mexico), Bethany White (FR/Montgomery, Ala.) and Emily Temple (FR/Tallassee, Ala.) all debuted for Pritchard Ndaira's squad in the loss.

White (0-1) recorded two saves and surrendered the goal in the loss.

Victoria Moran (SO/Buenos Aires, Argentina) led the team with three shots including one on target.

Faulkner begins its home campaign Friday Aug. 23 against the Ave Maria Gyrenes. Kickoff is slated for 6 p.m. at Billy D. Hilyer Stadium.
