MONTGOMERY, Ala. - On senior day, it was the freshmen who started the party and a senior who sealed the match as four second half goals poured in with braces from
Luci Schroder and
Faith Pelletier-King in a crucial 5-2 win over Blue Mountain (4-6, 0-4 SSAC).
Schroder's second half sparked the difference, putting Faulkner (4-8-1, 2-2 SSAC) up 2-0 in the 53rd minute on a breakaway sprung by Corrine Weissinger's perfectly weighted through ball down the right side with a perfect curler into the left side netting. Madison Zamudio drew one back six minutes later, but Schroder answered right back with a brilliant free kick from the center of the park to the right side of the goal. Jade Shaw ripped a shot over
Reagan Embry too strong for a pushover in the 72nd to create a one-goal difference for the third time.
That's when on her senior day, one of the best goal scorers in program history called "game." In the 77th, Pelletier-King redirected a cross from
Adamarie Moreno to create a 4-2 lead. She moved into fifth all-time in career goals scored in the 86th, slotting a right-footed shot past the diving keeper, receiving the pass from Schroder on a two-on-one created by a great long ball from
Keila Cardeiro Carmona.
Annabel Cuthbert opened the scoring, burying a chance after
Gianna Mendez intercepted a backline pass and dished to the English forward in the 41st to beat the keeper.
Inna Vannula stopped 17 shots in the loss, battling through an injury after colliding with a teammate in the first half as Faulkner shot 25 times on frame, running the total to 51 shots on target and 84 total shots on the weekend. Embry recorded four saves in the win.
Pelletier-King finished the weekend with four goals while Schroder bagged two with two assists. The two now lead the team with five goals apiece. The Lady Eagles put 51 shots on target to their opponents seven over the two matches.
Faulkner now sits in fifth in the SSAC standings, a half game behind Dalton State (2-1) who's match with Talladega was postponed and half a game ahead of Mobile (1-2.)
This is the second time that the Lady Eagles have won consecutive matches this season.
The Lady Eagles travel to Cochran, Ga. to take on Middle Georgia State after a week of rest Thursday, Oct. 21.
